There are 3 primary professional organizations supporting Supply Chain Management. Based on your interests, pick one of them and browse their web site for information about their services to their members. Briefly summarize what you find most interesting.
Institute for Supply Management (ISM) — primary focus on purchasing
APICS — primary focus on manufacturing
Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) — origins were primarily focused on distribution.
I chose to browse the Institute for Supply Management website and what I find most interesting are their corporate services. Offering customized solutions targeting specific needs of an organization to reach the full potential of their supply team and optimize their operational efficiency. Management of the supply chain is evolving quickly and though experience, skills and proficiency can go a long way it will not be enough to sustain or keep up and that is where ISM can help companies. In transforming organization, ISM offers talent assessment to grasp the current skills and knowledge of the existing supply team. ISM also offers talent training; continued learning is necessary to close gaps on competency and develop/prepare personnel for the future. ISM also assist in building a ladder to success and aligning team member with company’s goal to attain efficiency. Another solution ISM provides is talent acquisition, helping organization find the right staff and retaining them.
