Centenarians are people who live to or beyond the age of 100 years. The U.S. has the largest population of Centenarians in the world. An estimated 80,000 U.S. residents are classified as centenarians. Supercentenarians are those rare individuals who live past 110 years. Both demographics are growing and represent the fastest growing segment of the U.S. population! There is much that science does not understand about human longevity and the factors that contribute to one’s lifespan. However, scientists and public health professionals can take advantage of the growing pool of centenarians to better understand the secrets to long life and happiness.
